Massage is the technique of soft tissue manipulation using a variety of specific techniques and pressures using hands, finger tips and elbows. The science and vast benefits of massage come from the mechanical ways in which the techniques are performed. Soft tissues which can be manipulated include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin and fascia.
Massage is often regarded as the father of all healing tools as many of today's natural therapies have developed from this ancient technique. Massage is the oldest recorded method of natural healing and its first reference was in Chinese Medical Manuscripts in c.450BC, long before ancient Chinese healers were using acupuncture.
Greek physician Hippocrates strongly advocated massage and taught his pupils "a physician must be experienced at many things, but assuredly in rubbing". Massage is increasingly being recognised by both the medical and sporting professions for its ability to treat, maintain and provide comfort for a huge variety of diseases, osteopathic issues, health and well being issues.
Sports massage is not a substitute for veterinary care and treatment can only commence with approval from your vet.
